Ringing in the New Year with Newborn Trees
Garrett Leather has teamed up with a local family-owned nursery, NewbornTrees.com, to give a gift that keeps growing. Garrett has chosen a select group of approximately 1200 interior designers, upholsterers and furniture dealers nationwide to receive a newborn October Glory Red Maple, Bur Oak, or Japanese Maple to plant in their area. Garrett Leather is offering these newborn trees to 2009 customers as a way of saying thank you. The program also compliments Garrett’s commitment to enhancing the environment.

Please be sure to return all tree orders by March 31st. The trees will ship in April. All trees will be potted and approximately 24" in height. Planting and care instructions will be included.
Full Grain vs. Top Grain
Do you know that all full grain leather is top grain? What does full grain really mean? Become a leather expert and clear up the terminology that may be a bit confusing.
Top grain leather simply refers to the uppermost layer of the hide. Top grain means that the leather is not a split or suede, both of which are made from the lower layers of the hide. The strength of the fibers becomes weaker as you move to the lower layers of the hide. The top grain of the hide is the strongest and therefore, the most desirable.
All full grain products consist of top grain leather. All full grain leather is made from the uppermost layer of the hide. Then what is the difference between full grain and top grain products?
Full grain means that the natural grain fibers (of the top grain) remain intact. Full grain leather exhibits the natural grain. Some full grain products have an additional grain pattern added to accentuate, or enhance, the natural grain and add consistency to the hide, however, the natural grain still remains. Full grain leather is a higher quality option because the raw materials used must be very clean with minimal markings.
A leather product that is not full grain, but still consists of the desirable uppermost layer of the hide - unlike splits or suede - is top grain leather. These hides are buffed (or “lightly exfoliated”) to remove minor blemishes on the raw material.
All of Garrett’s products are full grain, with the exception of Torino, Berkshire and Avion, Garrett’s three most price-competitive products.
